Check out this short promo that acclaimed film composer Richard Bellis & I put together for a lecture series exploring the director/composer relationship & work flow.

Richard and I have done a number of long form projects together (The Legend Of The Ruby Silver, Seduction, Out Of Nowhere, Heart Of The Storm), and although we've had super productive interactions, we've both noted that the director / composer working relationship can be a challenging one.

The classic director complaint often is: "This composer isn't listening to me, he just wants to impose his vibe on my film instead of helping me tell the story." The classic composer complaint is often: "This director is just so musically illiterate." The seminar Richard & I do together addresses these and many other film music challenges. Our goal is to help emerging directors & film composers acquire a set of tools that will enable them to interact in a more positive & effective way.

One note on the clip; the Frame Forge software animation is a rough approximation of 2 guys giving a seminar. Bellis is lucky, his 'avatar' looks like Stephen Colbert. Unfortunately, mine looks like a young Donald Trump. Arghhhh. Hope you enjoy the clip.
